Arts Center Education Program 1999-2000
The Arts Center Education Program offers a year-round roster of arts classes for children. In 1999-2000, we will serve over 1,000 children, taking advantage of 65 different classes including aeromodeling, cartooning, ceramics, doll-making, drawing, glass fusing, oil painting, photography, printmaking, singing, tap dancing, and toy-making.
All of our teachers are professional artists with extensive teaching experience. Classes normally have maximum of 12 students and are held at the Arts Center, which is equipped with a classroom, a dance studio, and a ceramics studio, and at the new Arts Annex, located at 500 SW Madison across from City Hall.
Preschool Multi-Media Every term we offer a multi-media art class especially for preschoolers, taught by a rotating staff of artists who are experienced in early childhood education. In addition, several of our regular instructors design classes to appeal to the very young: l998-99's offerings exclusively for preschoolers have included singing, drawing, ceramics, and "story-art."
Teen Classes & Summer Arts Intensive The Arts Center also offers a wide range of classes particularly for teens. In the summer of 1999, high schoolers can study media arts, acrylic and oil painting, pastel, watercolor, and photography. We also offer a Summer Arts Intensive from August 23-27, during which teens can enroll for a week long in-depth class in ceramics, two-dimensional art, or creative writing. Other classes at the Center are open to a range of ages, occasionally including adults.
School's Out! Art's In! Four times a year on school holidays the Arts Center offers a lower-cost workshop opportunity called School's Out! Art's In! Students can spend the whole day at the Center. School's Out! Arts In! days for l999-00 will be October 8, October 22, November 12, and May 29.
