The Shows...
The Corvallis Arts Center Main Gallery features ten exhibitions
yearly in its largest exhibition space. For current exhibits

diversity and social relevance. It takes the viewer beyond art
for art sake toward cultural context. In January 2000 the Arts
Center/LBCA celebrates the Millenium by hosting two distictlively
different cultures. The Tibetan monks of Gaden Shartse Monastery
will create a sand-mandala on the premises and then blow it away
in a ceremonial blessing. The monks offer individual and group
blessings to the community for a fee as well.
In addtion Pat Courtney Gold, from Scappoose, the Wasco-Wishram
Indian tribe currates a native Amercian weaving exhibit. Native
dancers and singers will close the exhibit with a full-moon cermonial
blessing .
The Linn-Benton Community OPEN Exhibition
in February, allows each resident in Linn and Benton county
to enter one original art piece. All pieces will be hung until
the walls and pedestals are full. There are no age or professional
restrictions.
A Guild-Curated Exhibition is hosted
in April this year. Each year one of six visual art guilds affiliated
with the Corvallis Arts Center has the opportunity to curate
an exhibit featuring the best in their field.
The July da Vinci Exhibit, is exhibited
in conjunction with da Vinci Days Festival: A celebration
of Arts and Science and Technology. The exhibit follows
a theme each year and is focused on the connection between art,
science and technology. In 1999 the theme is EARTH, in
2000, TIME.
The Willamette Valley Juried Exhibition in October,
each year an outside juror selects work from artists residing
in the Willamette Valley. All media apply. Each October, the

Sayre, Professor in Art History of Oregon State University serves

Winterlight Annual Arts and Craft Holiday
Gift Show and Sale, held in November and December, is a six week
fund-raiser for the Arts Center exhibition programs.
Every other year the CAC/LBCA participates
in Quilt County (1999, 2001 etc.), a county-wide coordinated
series of quilt exhibits organized by the Benton County historical
Museum. The CAC exhibits play with the idea of quilting and piecing.
In 1999 Sally Sellers (WA) shows art quilts, Frank Werner (ID)
exhibits rigs of decoys.
Remaining exhibitions are selected annually
by the Exhibition Committee. The Committee consists of six
representatives of the guilds affiliated with CAC/LBCA, (Woodworkers,
Photo Arts, Art, Goose Quill Calligraphy, Ceramics, Handspinners
and Weavers), four members at large and a CAC-board member.

Call to Artists
A "Call to Artists" is published
annually. Proposals include a resume. Artist statement and max.
20 slides. Both individual artists, groups or guest-curators
can apply. For more information contact CAC/LBCA Curator Hester
Coucke.
Gallery Opening/Receptions
and Artist Talks
Each exhibit opens with a Gallery reception and artist talk,
the talk informs the public on the present exhibition. The reception
gives the public an opportunity to speak with the artist one
on one, and spend some time viewing the art. Members will receive
an additional discount on purchases during opening night with
presentation of membership card.
Volunteer Docents
The exhibition is served by a group of volunteer docents.
Tours can be scheduled in advance, please call Mary Lou Hewitt

Docents meet
twice a month, once for the Gallery Opening-Reception and Artist
Talk, and once for a business meeting. Docents are members of
CAC who pay additional docent dues of $10 annually. Outside of
meetings trips are organized to exhibits, artist studios, and
additional art classes.
Corrine Woodman Gallery
Members of the above mentioned guilds are featured in
the Corrine Woodman Gallery. Nine exhibits per year, and
an annual Miniature Show, open to all guild members
in October. The guild artists are selected by their peers; guest
artists are selected by the CAC Curator. Guild artists are invited
to participate in Winterlight.
Central Park Art Shop
The Central Park Art Shop is a gift shop
specialized in Arts and Craft items. The emphasis is on local
and regional artists, though artists from New York and Florida
are also represented.
